Your First Media Tag
Learn how to create your first media tag
Let's get you started on MagicPixel. In this tutorial, you will learn how to create your first media tag in MagicPixel. We will be creating a Facebook Image tag, Facebook Provider and publishing it to our staging environment.
Let's get started.
Assumption: At this point, we are assuming you have access to our web console and already have a project created. If you need help in creating a project, please reach out to your project/organization administrator and request for access

Creating a provider

For creating a provider, we will be doing,
  1. 1.
    Navigate to Left Nav - Providers
  2. 2.
    Choose "Add Provider" - "for Browser" from the top right menu. (Read about the difference between for Browser and for Server)
  3. 3.
    From the popup - we will be choosing a pre-built provider (Facebook)
  4. 4.
    We will be updating the name and description of the provider
  5. 5.
    We will be filling in the id (pixel id for facebook - so make sure you have access to one of them)
  6. 6.
    Save and done

Creating a new provider

Creating Qualification Criteria

Qualification Criteria (QC) tells MagicPixel when to fire a particular tag. In this step, we will be creating a simple QC with the default data elements which are available when a new project is created.
For creating a QC we will be doing,
  1. 1.
    Navigate to "Qualification Criteria" from the left navigation
  2. 2.
    Click on "Add Qualification Criteria" from the top right button drop down and choose "for Browser". (Read about the difference between for Browser and for Server)
  3. 3.
    Enter a name for your qualification criteria. Name should be descriptive of what your QC is going to do.
  4. 4.
    Click on "Add Data Element"
  5. 5.
    From the popup that appears ("Select Data Elements"), click on "Current Page Url" (Current Page Url data element is a default data element provided by MagicPixel and represents the full url of the page the user is on currently - Read more here)
  6. 6.
    In the text box in "Include these values" section, add "*" and click on the + button next to it. (* is a wild card which can be used to any number of characters)
  7. 7.
    Ensure that "Case Sensitive" and "Exact Match" are not selected - as they are not applicable for "*"
  8. 8.
    Ensure that no values are added for "Exclude these values" section
  9. 9.
    Click on "Save" to save the qualification criteria and return to the previous listing page

Creating a new Qualification Criteria

Creating a Tag

Tags tie together data elements, providers and qualification criteria into one bundle which is actionable. We will be creating a simple PageView event for facebook tag and deploy it on our website.
For creating a Tag, we will be doing,
  1. 1.
    Navigate to "Tags" from the left nav
  2. 2.
    Click on "Add Tag" and select "for Browser" from the drop down menu. (Read about the difference between for Browser and for Server)
  3. 3.
    From the popup of Select Provider, choose "Demo - Facebook", created from step 1.
  4. 4.
    QC Selection
    1. 1.
      Once the next page loads - Click on "Choose Qualification Criteria"
    2. 2.
      From the popup of "Choose Qualification Criteria", choose "Demo All Pages QC", created from Step 2
    3. 3.
      Click "Done" on the popup to save and return back to tag edit screen
  5. 5.
    Tag Info
    1. 1.
      Enter a tag name - Tag names should be descriptive enough but does not need to include Provider names. You can utilize the "Meta Data" section of tags to add more filterable meta data and use them later on - For this demo, enter "Facebook Tag - All Pages"
    2. 2.
      In the "Tag Query Parameters", enter "&uuid={{random}}" ({{<word>}} - Double brackets open and close are considered to be template parameters in MagicPixel. Read more here)
  6. 6.
    Provider Attributes Section
    1. 1.
      Enter "PageView" in the "evt" box of provider attributes (Note that Mandatory and Url Encode and not clickable because they are set from the provider level - So, any tag which uses the provider should provide these values)
  7. 7.
    Tag Attributes Section
    1. 1.
      Click on the
      next to the input box and click "Choose Data Element" from the drop down option.
    2. 2.
      Choose "Random Number" from the list of data elements (Random Number is a default data element provided by MagicPixel. Read more here)
  8. 8.
    Validate everything looks good and click on "Save"
